Persian Pictorial Kashan (Khosrow, Farhad and Shirin) – 6’9″ x 4’4″
Description
Khosrow Parviz was one of the last Sassanian kings, ruling Iran from 590 to 628. He seemed destined to marry the beautiful Armenian princess Shirin. However, due to a series of misunderstandings and failures of recognition, this event was repeatedly postponed. The legendary Farhad was a renowned stonemason and builder who also passionately loved Shirin. To remove his rival, Khosrow gave him the impossibly difficult task of building a road and tunnel through a mountainous area. In return, the king agreed he would give up Shirin if Farhad succeeded. When he learned to his surprise that the tunnel was nearing completion, Khosrow Parviz sent the false news that Shirin had died. Overwhelmed by grief and despair, Farhad threw himself off the mountain. There are some further misadventures that end with the murder of Khosrow and the untimely death of Shirin.
